Europe Cruise Destinations
Relyon Group offers secure parking in Dover. Many of our customers seek Dover port parking when they undertake a cruise around Europe. In the last thirty years, we’ve learnt a lot about European cruise destination, mainly through speaking to our parking customers. In this post, we have decided to list some of these European cruise destination for you. We hope this post will inspire you to enjoy some of Europe’s fantastic port cities.
#1. Barcelona
Barcelona is located in the Catalan region of Spain. Barcelona is perhaps Europe’s most popular port destination due to the abundance of art, culture, restaurants and nightlife on offer here. When you visit Barcelona please make sure you try tapas. Or why not visit the ‘Camp Nou’ football stadium, the home of FC Barcelona. If you are fortunate enough you may bump into some of their star players! And let us not forget Barcelona’s La Sagrada Familia. This majestic structure is still in the process of being built, almost one hundred years following the death of its architect, Antoni Gaudi.
#2. Rome
Rome is commonly reached from the United Kingdom by aeroplane. However, thousands of lucky travels reach this fabulous city via cruise liner. When you arrive in Rome you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to fantastic Italian foods such as pizza, pasta and gelatos. We also urge you to try the local wine.
Rome sights you absolutely must see include the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Let’s not forget St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel located in Vatican City.
#3. Venice
Another Italian city, Venice offers excellent food and wine. Start your journey in San Marco Square and then wander around many of Venice’s cobbled and narrow streets. Be sure to visit many of Venice’s ‘trattorias’ – an informal restaurant serving homemade food and wine.
When you visit Venice be sure to experience the ‘vaporreto’ – a sort of ‘water bus’ which transports people around Venice’s vast network of canals. Also pay a visit to Giudecca, a nearby island with a far less ‘touristy’ feel.
#4. Copenhagen
Like Venice, Copenhagen has an intricate network of canals. When you land in Copenhagen we urge you to navigate the city by kayak through these fantastic canals. Ensure you visit the canal at Nyhavn. This 17th Century waterfront is home to hundreds of bars, cafes and restaurants. Other important trips include the ‘Round Tower’ and ‘Tivoli Garden’.
#5. Stockholm
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. When you land in Stockholm you cannot afford to miss the waterfront promenade. If time permits try to explore the Swedish Archipelago. The Archipelago is a set of small islands to the east of Stockholm. Also of note is Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s ‘old town’. Start your adventures from Vasterlanggatan, the town’s central walkway.
#6. St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg is a great European coastal city. When you land in St. Petersburg you will be amazed by this city’s rich culture. St. Petersburg is home to some of the world’s most luxurious hotels including the Belmond Grand Hotel Europe, Hotel Astoria and the Corinthia Hotel. The main drag is Nevsky Prospekt. Here you can experience the plush Peterhof Palace, the neoclassical Kazan Cathedral and the Eliseyev Emporium.
